This article is not for the faint-hearted: A man in China lost his left hand in an accident involving a spinning blade at the factory where he works. In order to save it, Doctors attached the man’s severed hand to his ankle, to keep it alive.
His arm had been badly hurt and the nerves and tendons needed time to heal. The hand was then attached to his ankle to ensure blood supply and kept it alive for more than a month.
After several weeks doctors from the Xiangya Hospital, in China’s Hunan Province, restored the hand to its original limb in a 10-hour surgery.
